What
Is Orientation?
Eastern Kentucky University has a required Orientation
Program for all new freshmen. The Orientation Program enables new and
transfer students to meet with staff, student representatives, and academic
advisors to acquaint themselves with EKU Corbin services and to register
for their first semester courses. Our goal in this Orientation Program
is to help students make the transition to college by providing them
with information in a friendly and non-intimidating format that encourages
questions and participation.
Students and parents who attend Orientation will have
the opportunity to:
- Meet other prospective students and their parents
- Learn about student activities and events at EKU Corbin
- Learn about financial aid, payment plans, and other student services
and resources
- Have their photo taken for their student identification card
- Be advised and register for classes for their first semester
- Activate their EKU email account
Whether they have a declared major or are still undecided
about a career direction, students will be assigned an academic advisor
at EKU Corbin to work with them on Orientation day to complete a schedule
of their first-semester classes. Students will leave the Orientation
Program with a printed schedule of their classes and information on
how to access their new university email account.
Who
Should Attend Orientation?
All students attending EKU Corbin for the first time are
required to attend a new student orientation session before they register
for classes.
You should sign up for an Orientation session only after
you have:
- Taken the ACT test and had the results reported to the Admissions
Office at Eastern Kentucky University (see ACT TEST
below)
- Been admitted to Eastern Kentucky University (see ADMISSIONS).
Students, parents, or guests requiring special accommodations
or interpreters for the deaf should contact Teresa Belluscio, Coordinator
for the Disabilities Services Office, at 859-622-2933 at least one week
prior to the Orientation session.

ACT
Test
The ACT test is used at EKU for both admissions decisions
and for placement in certain classes. EKUs Admissions Office requires
that new students have scored at least a composite score of 15 on the
ACT to be admitted. Our academic advisors use the results of the ACT
test to determine if new students need any additional Math, English,
and Reading classes to prepare them for success in their college-level
coursework. Therefore, students must have taken the ACT test before
they can participate in the Orientation Program and schedule their classes.
Students whose ACT scores are below 18 in Math, English,
or Reading will be required to take additional placement tests (free)
and/ or sign up for additional classes (see PLACEMENT
TESTS AT EKU CORBIN below).

Reserving
Your Place in Orientation
When you receive your invitation from EKU to attend orientation
and register online,
we will send you a letter notifying you of your confirmed registration
date. (If you have not received a letter confirming your registration
within three weeks, please call the Orientation Office (859) 622-2285.)
Once you have been admitted to the University, you must then get re-registered
to attend an EKU Corbin new student/transfer orientation. Any new student
scoring less than 18 on the ACT in the areas of English, math and reading
will be required to take a placement test before attending a new student
orientation session.
Transfer students who have not transferred in work from these three
areas and have not scored the required 18 on the ACT may be asked to
take placement exams as well.
