EKU
Developmental Education Program
The developmental education program at Eastern Kentucky
University helps students achieve academic success by developing or
enhancing skill level proficiencies in the areas of reading, writing,
and mathematics needed for success in college-level courses. At EKU
and other colleges and universities nationwide, students must demonstrate
basic skill proficiencies in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics
as determined by ACT or placement test scores. Since these proficiencies
are determined through the ACT test, all students are responsible for
having ACT scores and subscores on file at the University. Before confronting
a rigorous academic program, students identified through testing as
needing additional help in these basic skill areas are placed in developmental
courses designed to improve their skills.
Students have the opportunity to take University Placement
Tests to demonstrate basic skill proficiencies. To schedule placement
tests please contact the Office of Academic Testing at 859-622-1281.
Practice placement tests and testing opportunities are available at www.testing.eku.edu.
ACT
Test
ACT scores and subscores provide essential information
used during advising and registration. Transfer
students are responsible for providing ACT scores if needed for course
placement. You can contact
ACT and have the scores sent to EKU. ACT can be contacted at http://www.act.org/.
If you would like to retake the ACT, EKU offers a Residual
ACT exam. You may contact the EKU Office of Academic Testing (859-622-1281)
to make arrangements to take the Residual ACT on the Eastern Kentucky
University campus prior to orientation.
If you have taken the National ACT, you must make sure
that the results have been reported to the Admissions Office at Eastern
Kentucky University.
If we do not have a record of your scores at Eastern,
you will not be able to register for courses.
